Tarati // Touchless Communication // MADE IN MIND
There is still a block of material separating you from the other person you are trying to reach using phone... a phone itself.
...Connecting to loved ones by way of mobile phone technology is a magical experience unto itself. Simply by touching keys, in order, on a keypad, we’re able to make another’s phone ring and then engage in meaningful conversation, from wherever we may be, to wherever they are. It’s poetry in motion, and yet the devices we use to reflect this experience do not communicate poetically. Tarati (in Sanskrit, meaning “through”) is a step towards rewriting cell phone history. Tarati enables the user to connect with others by passing fingers, in order, through key holes. This action of dialing alone is a more magical experience and, hence, more indicative of what’s really happening beyond the visible realm. ... Tarati beckons the user to “touch” someone without physically touching a single key. Its design reflects human connectivity in a less material/mechanical, more sensual, way. Tarati is a subtle device, but ever-so-powerful in its fearlessness.
The NONOBJECT Book is the first of its kind - the first of a new genre we call Design Fiction. In the same way that sci-fi movies and fictional tales stretch your imagination, our hope is to take you on a journey into the future of design and inspiration. We will share stories and concepts that offer a new point of view, a new way of thinking, a new way forward. Of course, as with all fiction, some of our ideas may seem improbable. Don’t worry, we bought the tickets. All you have to do is enjoy the ride.
The NONOBJECT book will include an exclusive DVD with movies of the nonobjects presented in the book plus audio recordings with author’s thoughts behind each of the concepts. Stay tuned.
